Specific Need

NFPA-certified turnout gear (bunker gear) is specialized, multi-layered protective clothing for firefighters, designed to meet strict standards for heat, flame, and hazardous material protection. The gear, typically governed by NFPA 1970 (formerly 1971) for design and NFPA 1850 (combining 1851/1852) for maintenance, consists of an outer shell, moisture barrier, and thermal liner. Key components include pants, coats, helmets, gloves, hoods and boots, all requiring strict maintenance and retirement after 10 years (msafire.com, December 8 2025)

Mission

Staplehurst Volunteer Fire Department will be available at all times to deliver professional and courteous care to anyone in need and to ensure our members come home safely.

Profile

Our fire department has responded to many calls around Staplehurst and has helped throughout Seward county, having updated bunker gear helps with our state requirements when we have our inspections and allows our community the comfortability in knowing that our firefighters are taken care of when it comes to proper setup at a fire scene, allowing the fire resistance of all Turn out gear, be up to date.

With fundraising efforts through the prior years, we can safely say, we have come shy to meeting our goal for our entire department to have updated Turn out gear, that is within regulations for the NFPA standards. We are continuing our need to fundraise for Turn out gear to not only finish supplying all of our Firefighters and EMTs with updated sets, to also fund a revolving account specific for "Turn out Gear", to allow our department to keep up with any wear and tear on the current sets we have, but to also have the ability to replace any gear that expires in the coming years.
