Project: Dollars for Diapers and Dishes  

Diapers are essential for infants and toddlers, but many families struggle to afford them. This basic necessity is often overlooked, yet it plays a crucial role in the well-being of young children. A diaper drive can make a significant difference in addressing the lack of access to clean diapers for low-income families.  The impact goes beyond just providing diapers; it extends to easing financial burdens and promoting healthier living conditions. When families don’t have to worry about affording diapers, they can allocate their limited resources towards other important expenses such as food, healthcare, or education. Along with diapers, this year we are looking at allocating some of the funding to offer meal planning and nutrition to families. 

Did you know?

• You can’t buy diapers with food stamps or get them  

through WIC (Women, Infants and Children) 

• 22% of all children under five years old in the U.S. live in  

poverty and 1 out of every 3 families struggle to afford  

diapers  

• If a family can’t afford Diapers, a baby may spend  

extended periods of time in the same soiled diaper. 

• Diapers cost an average of $75-$100 per month

Goal: Our hope is by continuing to provide a community diaper pantry, that we can make a difference.  Our goal is $5,000 and the money raised will go towards diapers, wipes and meal planning. Thank you for your consideration in helping make an impact.

WHY SIXPENCE WORKS

For nearly fourteen years, the Sixpence Early Learning Fund has shifted the odds of lifelong success in favor of a growing number of Nebraska’s infants  and toddlers at risk. An innovative collaboration between our state’s public and private sectors, Sixpence provides funding and enhances the quality and  efficiency of early learning and development services offered in communities  throughout Nebraska. Sixpence demonstrates how targeted investments  in the school-readiness of our youngest, most vulnerable children are also  investments that strengthen our families, communities and state. 

Sixpence promotes quality and accountability

Sixpence invests in programs built on practices proven to support  the development of cognition and character in young children.  Sixpence programs demonstrate strong administrative practices  and are staffed by knowledgeable, highly skilled educators who are  provided with opportunities for ongoing professional development.  Regular assessments enable Sixpence staff to deliver highly specialized  assistance to funded programs, helping them grow in quality and  achieve better outcomes for the children they serve. 

Sixpence is about meeting local needs 

Each Sixpence-funded program represents a community partnership  between local school districts, service providers and other area  agencies and stakeholders. This community-oriented focus enables  each Sixpence program to be highly responsive to the unique needs  of the children and families it serves and leverage local resources  more efficiently. 

Sixpence helps build stronger families 

Parents play the most important role in the care and education  of young children. Sixpence-funded programs work directly with  parents, enabling them to better understand and address their  children’s earliest developmental needs. Independent evaluations  of Sixpence programs show these efforts result in stronger  parent-child interactions known to support children’s social and  emotional competency.
